Post here any tips or important things you must know for Night of the Dead games. This should help new players out a lot. As an example, I will start by the first tip about the move bug.
1. There is a move bug that often happens during the game, you will suddenly not be able to move your marine. It is often caused by the someone using satchels or detonators. To fix this bug, you just need to reselect your marine. Do this by left clicking something else. A much better and faster way would be to set your marine to hotkey number 1 and 2. Then you will just need to tap your numbers 1 and 2 on the keyboard to reselect your character.
2. Use the shift key on your keyboard to set your next move. For example, you can click on your marine to pick up an item, and then set your marine to quickly move after picking up. So you click to pick the item, then holding SHIFT on the keyboard, you click you next move. You can set as many moves as you want while holding shift. This is one of the ways that players plant a lot of chain explosives or claymores so quickly. But if you marine is shooting zombies, and you hold shift and set moves, you will only do the set moves after killing all the zombies you see, so don't do that! Make your marine move first, then use the shift! This is almost a must-use thing if you want to play NotD well.
3. Try not to stand next to the walls, especially where there is a turn in front of you. A devourer or even just zombies could be around the corner, and you won't be able to see them until you turn the corner and it's right in front of you. Standing further from that wall will give you better distance and more time to react. Also if you stand next to the wall during the air enemy waves, a gargoyle can be on the other side of the wall hitting you, and you may not even have vision of it.
4. How to copy and paste your code. The fastest and best way I have found to save and load code is. After typing -save.... I press enter to chat, and in the chat I type my new code out, and press SHIFT + HOME to highlight that code. Then I press CTRL + C to copy it. Then I type -check and then press CTRL + V and my code is pasted there. Then I go to where I paste my code and paste it there for next game. In the next game I simply have that code copied beforehand, and at the start of the game I type -load and press CTRL + V to paste the code.
5. The creeps go for the player with the lowest HP first. So assuming that everyone has 100% HP, usually the lowest ranking player has the lowest base HP because they do not have the bonus HP that come with the rank promotions. The recon has the lowest HP out of all the classes, that is why usually the higher rank players with more bonus HP pick the recon. If the lowest rank player pick recon and goes away from team and looks for items, all the zombies will be drawn to him.
6. Do not 'tank' the creeps, that means do not stand there letting them hit you. Before you get hit you should already have moved away. The creeps go to whoever is attacking them. So if you stop and move away, the zombie will usually go away from you. The worst thing you see is some new player that is already injured, at the back of the team trying to shoot all the zombies behind the team.
Sometimes the 'dogs' such as devourer or a boss dog like Mrit gets pass the demolition's traps and gets onto the team. A basic tactic is to 'bounce' this dog, meaning that you move away from it and stop shooting once it comes for you. And other people shoot it again to draw it to them. And it is goes to another player, you shoot it again, making it go back and forth without you getting hurt.
Please feel free to add to this list.

*To reduce multiple posting, I'll just add to this post.*
Use attack to move. Allows instantaneous reaction to incoming creeps and dogs. Also helps to spot evils when the rest of the team is going back to base on wave 9. However, one should stop using it when your marine starts to shoot at the slow creeps behind you.
Always be alert for fats. This is especially crucial for heavy support since you don't want to waste too many bullets on them.
After wave 10, everyone should have AV, fib and kit on them. Obvious reason.
On wave 15, when everyone is in the final base, all except demo, med and firebat should "hug wall" - meaning to move to the very top. Firebat should stand in front of team to tank mrits and medic directly behind to heal.
Learn which items to prioritize. All heavy and light weapons, armour (except kevlar vest) must be taken. Descending from most importance - chain explosives, claymores, fibrin bandage, medkit, road flares, antivenom. The rest are... disposable
Don't think I should go into specific details of every wave. Good luck.
Addition
Patience is a virtue. Never leave the team behind when you think that they're too slow. Cover them so that they will move more and shoot less. The speed of the team is that of its slowest teammate. |
