ok first off: EVERYONE plays recon in their own way, no single way is necessarily better than another. The recon has 2 main jobs in the game:
1: waves 1-9 locate and move items from all over the map into the teams path for acquisition.
2: wave 10-15 you are the demo assistant your job duties are flaring the incoming paths for bosses and using designate skill to point them out to your demo/team.

several basic rules/suggestions for recon:
1. Recon is a very fun class to play, and extremely likely to be the first marine that dies.

2. con has the lowest hp and highest ms to start ignoring ranks, zombies target marines with the lowest hp (rule of 300 hp - if no one is under 300 hp they go for proximity alone). For this reason you are ill advised to play recon until you have an officers rank (2LT +) because your hp will be too low and you will lure zombies.

3. if you are inexperienced as recon or even if you are a pro recon and you just want to insure that you live while alone. carry these basic items:
FIBRIN!!!!, STIMPACK, FLAREGUN, SHOTGUN.

4. the team has set trigger points on the map, know where these are and make sure you rejoin the team for the start of waves as air/dogs are inbound and will kill you in 2 secs if you are alone.

5. those stalkers/bloodhunters are on the map to make your life hell. They have unpredictable AI and wander the map randomly. When they come to attack you use your designate skill on them and run towards your team for cover, if you have a shotgun, use it! keep that fib ready, they will likely AV you, beware. They also have a high chance of running away when you use an active skill (designate/flaregun etc). The first stalkers spawn on wave 2 use wave 1 to your advantage, no dogs out there to get you. later on the red dogs that spawned and never encountered the team will be somewhat accumulated in the "inner portions" of the map. basically if you stay outside of the teams route you have low chances of meeting dogs, if you go inner of the team you are about 80% likely to encounter them.

6. my skill build: fg + recon, endurance, recon, fg, recon, endurance, fg, crit, fg max, crit max. AGAIN everyone has their own build.

7. stay AHEAD of the team, do not recon behind the team or you are dead 100%. there are several very large one entrance buildings on the map. You have 2 opportunities to cover these without team cover. wave 0 before the wave1 start and wave 9 during the lure. I strongly recommend avoiding them other than those 2 times. There are 4 of these buildings I can think of.
a. Lower left, 2 blocks up on inside of route wave3. Do this building during wave 3 ahead of team, ask team to stop at that intersection and cover the ramp until you come out.
b. lower right corner north of docks, this building is huge, the left hand side is one entrance on the bottom rightside. Do this building during wave9 lure ahead of the team. by the time the team gets to the lamppost at the corner you need to be out of here or you will lure and die.
c. the "graveyard", in the dead center north of map there is a large boneyard with trees around it. this gigantic building with a "bridge" is known as the graveyard, this building is easy to recon during wave 7 after trigger and eta. Make sure you get a head start on the team leaving the wave 7 trigger point or you will get behind, also never go in here without flaring to check for items, its a huge waste of time and risk if you havent seen anythingn inside. On a side note: this building makes a great alternative base for a highly veteran team. The challenge for demo is alot of fun.
d. upper left area of map, 2 buildings south of top, inside the wave 4 route. this building has one ramp on the south side surrounded by trees. wave 0/1 is the best time to clear this building if you spawned in the upper left of map. if you go in here on wave 4 you are 75% dead in my experience, the trees at ramp obscure and hide enemies as you approach, on several occasions lyga has been hiding in these trees on wave 4 and cleavered me as I enter the trees. this building is just plain bad news. My strategy is typically to flaregun the left half of this building on wave 4 as I pass (dont go in-just take note of what u see inside), then on wave 7 trigger area I wander left and flaregun the right half of this building (you may or may not have time to enter at this point, you can always come back on w9 lure for really good stuff)

The "I am new and slow moving argument" therefore let me play recon and stick with the team. This is heard nonstop from new players. It is a dumb idea. recon has horrible damage, horrible starting hp, horrible reload time, no easy to use team support skills (i.e auras). If you have a newbie who needs to have moderate movespeed then make them play GRUNT! Grunt has good move speed, good starting hp, the best dmg possible on a pvt due to level 3 LWP skill, and has self healing skills. The low rank pvt grunt is very effective as added firepower to a team of veterans. Just be sure to limit their abomination gunning or you will be hurting on ammo as a team as they chew through clips with lev 3 lwp like no ones business.
