|
|
A lot of new players don't know how to use the Demolitions class. But the thing is, the work that Demolitions does is a must in beginners games. So everyone should know how to use demolitions and what to do in the game.
The demolition's main jobs in the game include
- Blowing up the 'fats' (pudges) in the game using explosives
- Setting walls of explosives as traps for the dog bosses such as Mrit, Mario and Luigi in the later waves.
- If possible, blowing up the dangerous dogs that come towards the team using his RPG skill or other methods.
- If possible, using his explosives to blow up huge groups of zombies all at once in order to save the team's ammunition. Zombies that are killed by shooting can revive, but blown up ones do not revive.
Killing Fats (Abomination and Lyganesh)
How do the demolition blow up the fats? The safest and most basic way is by using chain explosives. That is why you drop the chain explosives for demolitions to pick it up. Since the fats have so much HP, shooting it will waste a lot of bullets and there will be none left for the later game.
So one or two chain explosives is not enough, you need to plant a lot quickly. The first fat that appears comes in wave 2, if the team is moving properly and not too slow, the fat should appear behind the team.
There are 2 type of fats, the one in wave 2 is the one that is a bit smaller, called the 'Abomination'. The other one is called 'Lyganesh', it looks a bit bigger and moves a little bit slower and has more HP.
How to use explosives for fats
Now while the team is moving away from the Abomination, the demo should quickly plant the explosives to kill it at the back of the team. For example, you plant 13 chain explosives on the ground, in the path that the Abomination will walk on. Chain explosives can be overlapped, meaning that you can plant all 13 of them in the same spot. Now when the Abomination walks on it, it does not detonate itself. You must detonate the Chain explosives somehow. Some methods include using your RPG skill, a Grenade Launcher, satchels, or putting a detonator on one of the chain explosives.
A combination of chain explosives and claymores planted by me for the Abomination. Time to get away from it and detonate them.
Claymores can also be used instead of chain explosives for this task, but claymores cannot be 'overlapped', which means they need to be 'spaced out'. So if you use the shift key to place many claymores at once, be careful that you do not plant the claymores all around yourself and trap yourself inside! Claymores cannot be walked through unlike Chain Explosives! Also, Claymores are self detonated when a creep walks past it. And if you are in the vicinity when it explodes, you are dead.
This makes Claymores a tiny bit more tricky to use than Chains, so people who are trying to demolitions for the first time are recommended to just use Chains unless you found none.
Stacking Chain Explosives
You often see demolitions walking with the team, planting one chain explosive on the ground and then disarming it again, right? What is he doing?
He is making Chain Explosives and disarming them to use for later. Demolitions can make one Chain Explosive plant on the ground once he gets level 1 of Stationary Explosives Skill. Then with level 1 Disarm Skill he can disarm that Chain into his inventory. You can find packs of 8 Chain Explosives around the map, but those are often not enough for a team of new players who want to survive the whole 15 waves. That is why the Demolitions continuously creates and disarm Chains.
A chain explosive is made and about to be disarmed into the inventory, as you can see, no CE pack is found yet.
Those Chains are single chains and take up one slot in the inventory, which means the Demolitions can only keep 6 Chains at a time UNLESS he has a Chain explosives pack. If he has a chain explosives pack, the disarmed chain will go into the pack. So it makes a pack of 8 Chains Explosives into 9. If you find the pack of chain explosives in the map, you should pass it to Demolitions unless he is already full on inventory.
The demolitions should also 'unpack' all the pack of 8 chains he gets into 1 big pack of chains, otherwise he will be wasting inventory space.
A CE pack of 8 has been stacked up to 10 CE now. The 1 CE in the inventory should be planted and disarmed into the pack of 10 now.
With all this planting and disarming, it would take a lot of mana, that is why the Energy Cell should go to the Demolitions in the early stages of the game.
Skillset
Now the skillset to pick for Demolitions should be the Stationary Skills and Disarm first, so that he can begin making Chains. He should next get the RPG skill which has many uses, blowing up dogs, detonating those explosive traps, etc.
If you get level 2 of RPG and level 3 of Stationary Explosives Skill then you will be able to use the 'Cluster' skill. More on this skill later.
How do Demolitions plant the chains/claymores so quickly?
If you just use your mouse to click on your chains in your inventory and plant them one by one, you will be way too slow. You have to use either numberpad or the shift method to plant many chains quickly for the fat. The items in the inventory can be used through the numberpad, for example, the bottom left item is can be used if you press numberpad 1 on your keyboard.
Another method of planting is by holding the shift key and setting your next move, as explained in the Tips thread. You first make sure your marine is not shooting. Then you must make your marine perform and action (make him move somewhere). While he is performing this action (moving to the place), you hold shift and set his next actions. He will perform these planned actions once he has finished moving. So when you hold shift, just click on your CE pack and click on where you want to plant. If you click 5 times, 5 CE will be planted. If you click 10 times, 10 CE will be planted.
The flags shows the moves that I have pre-set by holding the shift key, in this case, it is planting some chains explosives for the fat.

Wave 10 and Beyond
Now the Demolition has a few tasks that is crucial to the game. This includes planting 'walls' of Chain explosives and putting detonators on them.
These walls will be used to kill the boss dogs such as Mrit, Mario, Luigi and the Wave 12 Thanatos.
If those bosses gets onto the team, it would be quite tricky for the team if there are already zombies around the team.
The team should be at the 'upper base' for Wave 11, if you don't know about this, refer to the Beginners Guide thread.
The 'walls' for Wave 11 are shown in the screenshot below. The last chance to prepare these walls is in Wave 10, after the rush of dogs. They need to be spaced out so that they do not detonate one another. Put at least one detonator on each wall. When you see each of the bosses go on it, detonate it. A fast way to detonate the chain is to press the hotkey D.
